Nobody likes to trek out to a riding area to find muddy trails. Most folks would be reluctant to go home, and such is how trails get damaged. The purpose of this blog is to prevent this scenario...If you like to check the conditions before you leave home, please do your part and tell others about how the trails are by adding a comment... Please, keep it short and to the point. Let's also keep this blog free of rants about users we dislike. Happy trails!
Rode Belcher, Mustang, and Sawmill, which were all pretty dry and ridable, albeit steep. I was told by another rider to stay off of trails north of Belcher (Longhorn, Shorthorn, Whippletree, etc. - all the trails on north facing slopes). He was frustrated with all the mud there.

ReplyDeleteYep, White Ranch was great tonight...well almost. There is a little mud at the bottom, but not bad. The climb (Belcher) was snow and mud free all the way to the very top up above Mustang. But, if you get off of Belcher and get onto Shorthorn, Longhorn, etc., you're looking at mud and snow. But hey, the climb is good to go. Hit it while you can. Tomorrow might be it for awhile depending on what we get tomorrow.
PS- echoing what a lot of others have said, the horses have done more damage in the recent mud to the trails at WR than bikes by far. I'm all for shared use, but we shouldn't always get pointed at as the problem children.
Rode White Ranch on Friday (1/22/10) morning when the ground was still hard. Basically rode Belcher Hill trail from bottom to 3-way split near upper parking lot. In really good, clear shape. Most ice was in the lower flats -- past the rock garden but before the hill. Just be sure to ride in the morning before the soil softens to a soupy mess. Enjoy!
